Common Questions

I haven’t been to the dentist in a long time. I know I’ve got some problems- can you help me without scolding or judging me?

Without a doubt-Yes! Many of our adult patients have remarked that we have never made them feel guilty or 'less than'. You don't need that kind of treatment and we don't need to do it. We understand that everyone has their own reasons for not seeing a dentist. We are here to help you move forward, not dwell on the past. If you have ever felt that doctors (and their staffs) never took the time to listen to you, we're certain you'll not feel that at our office.

Why do I have to have an exam with the Doctor when I just want to get my teeth cleaned?
Well, we take our cleanings more seriously than haircuts. Dental cleanings and periodontal treatments are medical procedures and as such really have to be prescribed by a doctor after he's done a thorough diagnosis. You can't just call your cardiologist and schedule yourself for a stent placement without his exam and diagnosis.

At other offices the Doctor only needs 5 minutes to check my teeth after they’ve been cleaned. Why does your exam appointment take almost an hour?
Usually, our new patient appointments run like this: You and Dr. Wuensch talk in the consultation room first. (You do the talking and Dr. Wuensch does the listening!) We need to find out what is important to you before we do anything. Then in the treatment room we check to see how healthy your gums are with a voice activated periodontal charting system; this is the foundation for your healthy mouth. Dr. Wuensch will then examine each individual tooth for cavities, cracks, wear, fillings, crowns, ect. You will also have an analysis of your bite, your jaw joint and your jaw muscles (also called TMJ or MPD) and youwill also have a cancer screening exam on the skin of the head, neck and face as well as the intra-oral tissues (tongue, lips, throat, cheeks and floor of the mouth). Finally we take close up clinical photographs of your mouth and a full set of x-rays.
